January 2014 – Glaucoma Awareness Month

January 2014 – Glaucoma Awareness MonthJanuary marks Glaucoma Awareness Month! As we start a new year, it is a great time to get a fresh perspective on your eye health. Glaucoma, an invisible eye disease that affects over four million Americans a year, damages vision through its effect on the optic nerve. Many with glaucoma do not experience any symptoms during the first stages of the disease, and this disease is easily diagnosed through a comprehensive exam.

Those the most at risk include men and women over the age of 60 and those with a family history of glaucoma. Like many other medical conditions, glaucoma can be treated- and even prevented if caught early enough.

If you are at risk for glaucoma, now is a great time to schedule an exam. A glaucoma exam consists of a Visual Field Screening, a pressure test, and the dilation of the pupils so Dr. Mila can see the optic nerve clearly and take photos to track the health of your eyes.
